Reasons for Choosing a Pet Bird

Birds make wonderful pets for people in a variety of different life situations. If you are considering adding a new pet for your family, be sure to take a look at everything that birds have to offer. Here are a few reasons why birds make excellent pets:

They are fairly easy to care for. Unlike dogs, birds don't need to be taken on regular walks. Unlike cats, you don't need to deal with a litter box. If you're worried about a pet roaming your house when you're not home, a bird is a great choice, as it will generally be kept in a cage while you're at work. A bird doesn't need to be housebroken like some other pets. Birds also preen themselves regularly, so a good nail trim and the occasional shower is all they need to keep themselves looking their best. Smaller species that don't need a large cage will also take up very little space.

They can be less expensive than other pets. Birds are fairly inexpensive to feed. They will need a high-quality pellet food and will eat some of the same fruits and vegetables that you do. There are many rental places that don't consider birds to be pets and therefore don't charge renters the same pet fees as they do for other animals.

Birds are fun! Birds are social animals and many species, when handled properly, will develop very close bonds with their owners. Many bird species are very attractive, making them a joy to watch. There are also a number of species that are very long lived, with some parrots living upwards of 100 years! If you're looking for a pet for the long haul, a bird is a great choice.
